Restoration in Oxford (OX11)

Today we delivered back a fireplace we have been restoring for quite a while. Oxford is a little out of our “normal” work area. When we took on the fireplace it was just the frame and a shelf of a cast iron combination fireplace. We began the restoration by sandblasting the fireplace back to bare metal then rebuilding it with the missing parts before completely refinishing it in a heat proof matt black finish. Now the fireplace is just waiting for fitting and once again it will be a functioning fireplace.

Today we moved on to a white statury Edwardian marble restoration. A stunning white marble with liver marble detailing. Stripped down to individual panels and polished then completely rebuilt ready for fitting tomorrow in Clapham.

Fireplace fittings in Sydenham (SE26), South East London and Wimbeldon (SW18) South West London.

In Sydenham we removed a huge brick fireplace and replaced it with a restored cast iron Art Deco fireplace, slate hearth and gas fire. Over in Wimbeldon we had previously removed the customers Victorian tiled insert for restoration and today we refitted the restored fireplace with new tiles and a new slate hearth for solid fuel. Pics will be on http://www.facebook.com/rpsfireplaces soon.

Mean while in the workshop…..

I’ve spent 2 whole days working on the restoration of a huge Victorian cast iron surround, it has massive solid cast iron pillars on either side. First the surround was sandblasted back to bare metal then we polished it to a high silvery shine. It is the heaviest fireplace we have ever had and takes 3 people to lift it when its dismantled, I don’t think it will be possible to lift when its built. Thank god we aren’t fitting this one!!! Pics on http://www.facebook.com/rpsfireplaces if I ever get tp see it built up!!

Slate restoration in Chiswick (W4), West London.

Today we removed 2 slate Edwardian surrounds for restoration. They will be whisked back to our workshops and restored over the next few weeks and when they are refitted, they will be restored with new slate slips and hearths, with modern baskets and gas fires.

At the workshop….

We have been struggling like mad to catch up with all our restoration work after our Christmas break. Currently we are working on a very early Georgian register grate, its had a lot of repair and restoration work carried out on it but looks amazing now it has a traditional grate polish finish with polished brass trim.
